On the first day of this activity, I had the students draw whatever they wanted on a small piece of card stock with pencils and markers. I brought in drawings that they could copy or use as inspiration if they were not sure what to draw. I then took the drawings home and traced them digitally then printed them out on transparent paper. I reused the frames I used for weaving and turned them into mini silk screens by stretching a fine mesh fabric over top. I coated each screen with a thin layer of photo emulsion. Then I used the transparent prints to burn the images into the screens. I started the lesson by explaining how I burned the images into the screen, showing the kids photos of the process. Then I helped them make prints one at a time to avoid making a huge mess. We printed the images onto post card sized pieces of card stock. I let each kid pick one color of acrylic paint to print with. I squirted a small amount onto the screen and had the kids use old plastic gift cards as miniature squeegees.
