The goal of this project was to teach hand sewing. I started by having the students design monsters by cutting out shapes with construction paper and collaging them together. I then cut out the designs in felt. I sewed the bodies using my machine and brought the other precut details to class. First, I had the kids turn their monsters right side out so they could see how I sewed them. Then they stuffed their creations with fiber fill. I then handed out threaded needles and demonstrated how to securely sew up the final edge. Finally I handed out their original designs, the final details, googly eyes, and fabric glue to finish their monster dolls.
